Many sports are getting pushed back from COVID. This includes the girl´s basketball team at Nipomo High School. The question is when and how will it return.

COVID has truly messed up our athletes’ routines and schedules. Girls basketball usually plays after the boys season for more time in the gym, but with almost every sport starting in January you can’t help but wonder how or when girls can officially play ball.

This is a major setback for its seniors, the students who are to play on varsity, and also the parents. Girls’ basketball season may be more confusing when having its startup compared to other sports. They will have to implement both girls’ and boys’ basketball practices and games into their schedule which could lead to the girl´s team not coming back until late 2021 season.

However, girls on the team are still very much excited about this season. ¨We are doing conditioning practices that started Tuesday and I’m hoping that we can start actual practice in January,¨ says Clarissa Simonson, a varsity player.

¨I´m very excited to get back into the swing of things and be able to see my teammates and get back into competition and just enjoy my senior season,¨ says Simonson. Simonson doesn’t care what comes in her way, she is just excited for the season to get going.

¨The team this year is really hardworking and we want to do better from last year against the more competitive teams like AG and Righetti. If we push each other we should win another League Championship,¨ says Kat Anderson, varsity player from the girl´s team. This team is very competitive and may good enough to win another League Championship.

In the end, the varsity players are extremely confident their season will continue because of their past success on the court.
